The best mother board members will be passionate about the mission with the group. They want to support move the organization forward simply by contributing their time, skill, and display to progressing its cause. They are excited to see plans arrive in the mailbox and eager you can find out more to attend a gathering.
They also understand their role and therefore are willing to perform it with integrity. They have a clear knowledge of their legal duties and understand what they are allowed to perform and what has been delegated to committees or staff. They are mindful of the boundaries of their authority and are in a position to articulate them evidently to the executive team.
The greatest panel members placed their own spirit aside and are also always searching for new ways to contribute to the achievement of the organization. They know that the table is a collaborative forum, plus they are eager to offer all their perspective in conversations to members. They are simply willing to provide their personal time and methods, even if it could negatively affect their own organization or financial situation.
Finally, a great foundation panel member may be a lifelong novice. They take the time to learn as much as they can about the school they provide and the advanced schooling landscape today, both from attending conventions, reading AGB’s Trusteeship mag, and talking with peers in other institutions. That they ask informative questions and listen intently to different members’ answers.
